WHEREAS, the Norfolk State University men's basketball team, under the leadership of head coach Robert Jones, achieved a significant milestone with a come-from-behind win against Howard University to secure Coach Jones' 200th victory; and
WHEREAS, the Norfolk State University Spartans were down by 15 points at one stage but rallied back with a 13–4 run to tie the game at 61, setting up a three-pointer by Jamarii Thomas with 25 seconds left to secure a 65–61 victory; and
WHEREAS, this victory not only marked the 200th win for Robert Jones but also highlighted the resilience and determination of the Norfolk State Spartans; and
WHEREAS, the Norfolk State Spartans have faced adversity with grace and resilience, particularly during a game where racial slurs were directed at the team; and
WHEREAS, despite facing such unacceptable behavior, the Norfolk State Spartans maintained their composure and focused on the game, ultimately emerging victorious; and
WHEREAS, the Norfolk State Spartans' victory against Howard University is a historic moment that will be remembered and celebrated by the Norfolk State University community for years to come; and
WHEREAS, the tenacity of the Norfolk State Spartans serves as an inspiration to all, demonstrating the importance of unity, strength, and perseverance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Norfolk State University men's basketball team for their historic victory and for their resilience in the face of adversity; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Norfolk State University men's basketball team as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for the team's athletic achievements.
