HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 374 Commending Ron Fitzsimmons. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 5, 2024 Agreed to by the Senate, March 7, 2024

WHEREAS, Ron Fitzsimmons was selected as the 2023 Lord Fairfax for the Mount Vernon District in honor of his service to young people through the charitable organization Alice's Kids; and

WHEREAS, every year, the Lord and Lady Fairfax Awards Program honors two volunteers from each magisterial district in Fairfax County for an act of heroism or outstanding commitment to community service; and

WHEREAS, recognizing that children who receive charity may feel ashamed or embarrassed, Ron Fitzsimmons and his sister, Laura Fitzsimmons Peters, created Alice's Kids to provide anonymous support for children in need; and

WHEREAS, Ron and Laura Fitzsimmons, who both benefited from charitable programs in their youth, named Alice's Kids in honor of their mother; the organization works with teachers and counselors to identify children's needs and provides gift cards to parents or caregivers to purchase the item themselves or cover necessary expenses; and

WHEREAS, through his work with Alice's Kids, Ron Fitzsimmons has helped parents brighten their children's days by facilitating the purchase of sports equipment, prom tickets, summer camps, and more; and

WHEREAS, while some support comes from grants and corporations, Ron Fitzsimmons has cultivated a strong network of generous individual donors to support young people in need, making Alice's Kids a true community effort; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ron Fitzsimmons for his service to the community through Alice's Kids on the occasion of his selection as the 2023 Lord Fairfax for the Mount Vernon District; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ron Fitzsimmons as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his life-changing contributions to thousands of young people in the Commonwealth.
