Commending Emily Ann Fox.

WHEREAS, in 2024, Ashburn native Emily Ann Fox represented the Commonwealth at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris, France, winning a gold medal for Team USA in the Women's Olympic Football Tournament; and

WHEREAS, Emily Fox began playing soccer at a young age and led the Stone Bridge High School Bulldogs to the state finals in her freshman year, scoring 16 goals as a midfielder; she also played club soccer and received a call-up to the U.S. U-18 Women's National Team; and

WHEREAS, while playing for the University of North Carolina from 2017 to 2020, Emily Fox switched from midfielder to defender and began cultivating her reputation as a reliable outside back, whose speed and creativity make her an attacking threat along the sidelines; and

WHEREAS, Emily Fox helped lead the University of North Carolina Tar Heels to two national championship appearances and was a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference First-Team selection; during her college years, she also made her first appearance for the U.S. Women's National Team in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Emily Fox was the number one overall pick in the 2021 National Women's Soccer League Draft and has played for Racing Louisville FC, the North Carolina Courage, and Arsenal WFC in England over the course of her professional career; and

WHEREAS, fulfilling a lifelong dream, Emily Fox was selected to the U.S. Women's National Team's 18-player roster for the 2024 Summer Olympics in June of 2024; and

WHEREAS, Emily Fox and the U.S. Women's National Team dominated the group stage, winning games against Zambia, Germany, and Australia to finish first in Group B, then defeated Japan and Germany in the knockout stage; and

WHEREAS, in the tournament final, Emily Fox and the U.S. Women's National Team faced Brazil and finished 1–0 to secure the gold medal; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Emily Ann Fox on winning a gold medal at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in 2024; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Emily Ann Fox as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her outstanding athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
