WHEREAS, Dee E. Floyd, a proud public servant, hardworking entrepreneur, and active leader in the Rockingham County community, died on November 28, 2014; and WHEREAS, a native of Clover Hill, Dee Floyd attended Dayton High School and served his country as a member of the United States Navy; he deployed to the Pacific Ocean aboard the USS Mount McKinley and participated in the nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll; and WHEREAS, Dee Floyd returned to the Commonwealth and graduated from Bridgewater College in three years as one of the first recipients of a bachelor of science degree in business administration; and WHEREAS, a loyal employee of the Colgate-Palmolive Company for almost 30 years, Dee Floyd was also possessed of an entrepreneurial spirit and owned several businesses, including the Gerundo Family Campground; and WHEREAS, Dee Floyd served the community as the chair of the Rockingham County Republican Party and as a member of the local Zoning Board of Appeals, the Planning Commission, and several other committees and organizations; and WHEREAS, beginning in 1987, Dee Floyd further cultivated a love and respect for the importance of public service as a legislative aide in the Senate of Virginia for seven years; and WHEREAS, in 2000, Dee Floyd won a seat on the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors and worked diligently to enhance the quality of life of his fellow residents, winning reelection in 2001, 2005, and 2009; and WHEREAS, Dee Floyd lived his deep faith through his actions, always working to care for his beloved family and serve and support all members of the community; and WHEREAS, Dee Floyd will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Martha; children, Debra, Susan, Cheryl, and Steven, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Dee E. Floyd, a dedicated public servant, entrepreneur, and community leader; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dee E. Floyd as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
