WHEREAS, Jack R. Hamm of Meadowview, a farmer and farm machinery repair technician, a volunteer firefighter, a man of faith who was a foster parent to more than 100 children, and a devoted husband and father, died on January 3, 2015; and WHEREAS, Jack Hamm was a native of Washington County and lived there his entire life; he was widely known as a "Jack of all trades" for his many talents and mechanical skills and recently had worked for a local heating and electrical company; and WHEREAS, for many years, Jack Hamm welcomed children into his home who were in need of stability and caring supervision; he and his wife, Virginia, were foster parents to more than 100 children, and the couple also had looked after more than 60 day-care children; and WHEREAS, dedicated to helping his rural southwestern Virginia community, Jack Hamm had served as a member of the Meadowview Volunteer Fire Department, working to protect his neighbors and their property; and WHEREAS, a man of faith, Jack Hamm enjoyed fellowship and worship as a member of Mount Carmel Christian Church in Meadowview; and WHEREAS, Jack Hamm will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by Virginia, his wife of 48 years; his children, Rick, Mikel, Jordan, and Alan, and their families; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jack R. Hamm of Meadowview, who was born and lived his entire life in Washington County and was a farmer, a farm machinery repair technician, a volunteer firefighter, a man of faith, a foster parent to more than 100 children, and a devoted husband and father; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jack R. Hamm as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
