HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 909
Commending the Tuscarora High School girls' cross country team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 25, 2015
Agreed to by the Senate, February 26, 2015

WHEREAS, the Tuscarora High School girls' cross country team finished a stellar 2014 season by winning the Virginia High School League Group 5A cross country championship on November 14, 2014; and

WHEREAS, the 2014 girls' cross country title is all the more prized because it is the first state title won by any team from Tuscarora High School, which is in Leesburg; the team's final score was 71 points; and

WHEREAS, the Tuscarora High School Huskies were led by outstanding efforts from freshman Emma Wolcott, who finished in third place overall with a time of 18:25, and team leader Anna Wasko—the only senior cross country runner—placed fifth with a time of 18:57; and

WHEREAS, five runners from Tuscarora High School finished in the top 32 of all contestants at the competition, which was held at Great Meadow in The Plains; the work and determination of the entire team helped the runners claim the school's first-ever state title; and

WHEREAS, during the 2014 season, the Tuscarora High School runners from Loudoun County had specific goals, which they met; they also were focused on winning the state championship after coming in third the year before; and

WHEREAS, the Tuscarora High School cross country program is only five years old, having started in 2010; the team has grown stronger each season, and in 2014, the group's camaraderie, support, and preparation were keys to winning the state crown; and

WHEREAS, the head coach of the Tuscarora High School girls' cross country team is Becky Puterio, who gave great credit to the team's leadership and resolve; the runners received great support from their families and from the entire Tuscarora High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Tuscarora High School girls' cross country team for winning the 2014 Virginia High School League Group 5A cross country championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Becky Puterio, coach of the Tuscarora High School girls' cross country team, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for the team's outstanding achievement.
