WHEREAS, Chief Oscar C. Watson, the president and chief of Black Creek Volunteer Fire Station #12 who founded and served as president of the popular Hanover Tomato Festival, died on September 7, 2012; and WHEREAS, a longtime resident of Hanover County committed to
the safety and WHEREAS, a highly skilled firefighter, Chief Watson stayed abreast of the latest technology as he responded to thousands of emergency calls and battled a wide array of fires over the years, in addition to providing important fire safety education to community members; and WHEREAS, Chief Watson mentored new generations of firefighters and earned the respect of his colleagues as he served as chair of the Hanover County Fire Chiefs Staff and chair of the Hanover County Fire Show for 15 years; and WHEREAS, as founder and president of the Hanover Tomato Festival, Chief Watson worked tirelessly to bring together community members to promote the county's signature crop at the annual event that draws tens of thousands of visitors; and WHEREAS, a vital part of the Hanover County community, Oscar Watson touched the lives of countless individuals and created an enduring family-friendly event that allows residents to gather together and celebrate their community spirit and enjoy the county's delicious tomatoes; and WHEREAS, predeceased by his son, Michael, Oscar Watson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Sandy; daughter, Lynn, and her family; stepdaughter, Lisa, and her family; daughter-in-law, Diana, and her family; numerous other family members and friends; fellow firefighters; and the residents of Hanover County; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated firefighter and beloved community supporter, Chief Oscar C. Watson; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Chief Oscar C. Watson as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory. |
