WHEREAS, Stephon Hicks, a student at Thomas Dale High School in Chester, won the Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship in the boys' high jump event at John B. Todd Stadium in Newport News on June 2, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Stephon Hicks posted a height of six feet, eight inches in the competition, gracefully scaling the bar on his third attempt to ultimately secure the state championship title; and
WHEREAS, at the Virginia High School League Region 6A meet at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach in late May, Stephon Hicks won the high jump event with a height of six feet, zero inches and the long jump event with a distance of 22 feet, 11.5 inches; and
WHEREAS, Stephon Hicks has honed his high jumping and long jumping abilities over two years with the Thomas Dale High School track and field team; and
WHEREAS, Stephon Hicks has also excelled on the gridiron, earning first-team, all-region, and second-team, all-state, honors for his accomplishments in football; and
WHEREAS, Stephon Hicks' success is the result of his work ethic and determination, the motivation and guidance of his coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of his family and the entire Thomas Dale High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Stephon Hicks hereby be commended for being the 2023 Virginia High School League Class 6 state champion in the boys' high jump event; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Stephon Hicks as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his achievements.
