HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 227
Commending the Jubilee Family Development Center.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2024
 

WHEREAS, the Jubilee Family Development Center, a nonprofit organization in Lynchburg dedicated to providing high quality academic, athletic, and occupational programs to foster the personal, social, and spiritual growth of young people and the stability of families, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Jubilee Family Development Center was founded in 1999 to address the need for programs that would target and support at-risk youth and help them achieve their academic and social goals; and

WHEREAS, the Jubilee Family Development Center's services include its Youth Educational Support Program, summer enrichment camps, adult classes and workshops, its 3 Point Play Program, athletic programs, and its science, technology, engineering, and mathematics center and vocational programs, which are carried out in partnership with local community organizations and colleges; and

WHEREAS, through its tutoring services and other forms of mentorship, the Jubilee Family Development Center helps students acquire skills and build confidence so that they can fulfill their potential and achieve their hopes and dreams; and

WHEREAS, the Jubilee Family Development Center strives to assess the unique circumstances and needs of every child it serves and to connect them with programs and role models that will make a profound and lasting difference in their lives; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, the Jubilee Family Development Center has been honored with numerous accolades in recognition of its impact in the community, including the 2016 President's Award from the Lynchburg branch of the NAACP for the organization's executive director Sterling Wilder, as well as the 2004 Make a Difference Day National Award from USA Weekend; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Jubilee Family Development Center in promoting the well-being of young people and families in Lynchburg are the result of the inspired leadership of its founders and staff and the tireless efforts of its tutors, mentors, and volunteers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Jubilee Family Development Center hereby be commended on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Jubilee Family Development Center as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's mission and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
