Celebrating the life of John Kenner Marlow.

WHEREAS, John Kenner Marlow, an honorable veteran, accomplished builder and businessman, esteemed public servant, and beloved member of the Front Royal community, died on February 4, 2024; and

WHEREAS, John Marlow graduated from Warren County High School, where his historic accomplishments in football, basketball, and track and field, earned him a scholarship to attend and play football at the University of Virginia (UVA); and

WHEREAS, at UVA, John Marlow was the co-captain of the football team and also excelled in track and field and basketball and was a member of several distinguished student organizations while pursuing a degree from UVA's McIntire School of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, after college, John Marlow served his country with honor and distinction as a lieutenant in the United States Army, spending two years stationed in Germany before returning to his hometown of Front Royal in 1964; and

WHEREAS, with an ambitious and enterprising spirit, John Marlow embarked upon several business ventures over his career, building a number of apartment buildings, buying Marlow Motor Company from his father and later Tri-State Nissan in Winchester and Marlow Ford in Luray, and continuing to construct homes and develop real estate in the area for many years; and

WHEREAS, John Marlow was elected to the Warren County Board of Supervisors in 1968 and proudly and faithfully served his constituents for 14 years, contributing to the betterment of the community as a founding director of the Lord Fairfax Planning District Commission; and

WHEREAS, John Marlow served as mayor of Front Royal from 1982 to 1990, providing visionary leadership that guided the locality's growth and development for the benefit of its residents and visitors; and

WHEREAS, John Marlow deepened his impact on the community as founder of the Warren County Educational Endowment and founding director of The Peoples Bank of Front Royal, as well as through leadership positions with Jefferson Bank, First Bank, the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, and the Board of Trustees at Shenandoah University; and

WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his faith, John Marlow enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at the First Baptist Church of Front Royal; and

WHEREAS, John Marlow will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce; his children, Jessica, Emily, Debbie, and Jeania, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of John Kenner Marlow, a pillar of the Front Royal community whose dedication and service touched countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Kenner Marlow as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
