WHEREAS, in 2016, the Herndon High School girls' basketball team of Fairfax County won a Virginia High School League Group 6A state tournament game for the first time in program history; and WHEREAS, in the state quarterfinal, the Herndon High School Hornets upset the Group 6A South regional champion Woodside High School Wolverines, winning with a score of 53 - 41; and WHEREAS, the Herndon High School Hornets advanced to the state semifinal and finished the season with a 21 - 8 record; and WHEREAS, junior guard Indeya Sanders led the Herndon High School Hornets in the state quarterfinal with 22 points and scored her 1,000th career point during the game; and WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the skill and hard work of all of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Herndon High School community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Herndon High School girls' basketball team hereby be commended on winning its first Virginia High School League Group 6A state tournament game in 2016; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Cornelius Snead, head coach of the Herndon High School girls' basketball team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its achievements and best wishes for the future. |
