WHEREAS, Consul General Do Ho Kang of the Republic of Korea has established a record of distinguished service to the Korean community in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area for past three years; and WHEREAS, there are approximately two million Americans of Korean descent living in the United States, making it home to the second-largest Korean population in the world; and WHEREAS, there are 200,000 Korean Americans living in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, more than half of whom live in Virginia; and WHEREAS, the Republic of Korea is Virginia's 11th-largest trading partner, with the Commonwealth exporting coal and agricultural products and importing electronics and vehicles; and WHEREAS, Virginia and the Republic of Korea have developed a special relationship, consisting of strong economic, social, and cultural ties, through times of both peace and war; and WHEREAS, Consul General Do Ho Kang has served a vital role in strengthening those ties between Virginia and the Republic of Korea; and WHEREAS, Korean Americans throughout the region and the United States make valuable contributions to their communities through their professional and business associations and membership in service organizations and churches; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Consul General Do Ho Kang of the Republic of Korea hereby be commended for his leadership and efforts to promote friendship and partnership between the Republic of Korea and the Commonwealth of Virginia; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Consul General Do Ho Kang and Ambassador Ho-Young Ahn as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for Consul General Do Ho Kang's honorable service. |
