HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 448
Commending the Reverend Dr. Alfred and Goldie Jones.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 8, 2024
 

WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Alfred and Goldie Jones have provided outstanding leadership to the congregation of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Triangle for 50 years ; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Jones began to cultivate his deep faith at a young age as a member of Mount Oni Baptist Church, then commenced his career as a minister with Ephesus Baptist Church in West Point in 1963 and Third Mount Zion Baptist Church in Woodford in 1967; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Jones was called to pastor Mount Zion Baptist Church in Triangle in 1974, and he and his wife, Goldie, who serves as a deaconess, have helped the congregation grow in both faith and number over the course of their long tenure as pastor and first lady; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Alfred and Goldie Jones, Mount Zion Baptist Church grew from just 35 members to more than 2,000 congregants; they developed five fundamental ministries, Evangelism, Inspired Arts, Christian Education, Discipleship Building, and Family Life Principles, along with dozens of other subordinate ministries; and

WHEREAS, to better serve the community, Alfred and Goldie Jones also launched programs that provide financial assistance, food, clothing, and other necessities to people in need; and

WHEREAS, Alfred and Goldie Jones have proudly raised six children and currently reside in Stafford; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Reverend Dr. Alfred and Goldie Jones hereby be commended on the occasion of their 50th anniversary as pastor and first lady of Mount Zion Baptist Church; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Dr. Alfred and Goldie Jones as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for their service to the Triangle community.
