WHEREAS, at the conclusion of the 2011 - 2012 season, the Highland Springs High School girls' basketball team defeated Monacan High School to win the school's first Central Region girls' basketball title and advance to the state quarterfinals; and

WHEREAS, during the 2012 - 2013 season, the Highland Springs High School girls' basketball team continued to dominate on the court and advanced on February 25, 2013, to the Central Region championship, where it faced L. C. Bird High School; and

WHEREAS, the Highland Springs High School Springers and the L. C. Bird High School Skyhawks had a close first quarter that ended in a tie at 10 points, but the Springers came out strong in the second quarter, outscoring the Skyhawks 27 - 5; and

WHEREAS, the Highland Springs High School girls' basketball team continued to play strong defense and won the regional championship game against the Skyhawks (67 - 50), thus joining an elite group of Central Region schools that have captured back-to-back regional titles; and

WHEREAS, the Highland Springs High School girls' basketball team went on to have a strong performance in the Virginia High School League Group AAA state quarterfinal against Lake Taylor High School; and

WHEREAS, the entire Highland Springs High School girls' basketball team worked hard throughout the entire season and contributed to the team's back-to-back Central Region championship titles; and

WHEREAS, the successful season of the Highland Springs High School girls' basketball team is a tribute to the dedication of the players, the leadership of head coach Franklin Harris and his staff, and the support of the students, parents, school administration, and community fans; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Highland Springs High School girls' basketball team hereby be commended on winning the Central Region championship title for the second straight year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Franklin Harris, head coach of the Highland Springs High School girls' basketball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for the team's outstanding season and championship performance.
