WHEREAS, Frederic P. Bemak, a professor of counseling and development at George Mason University, received a 2018 Outstanding Faculty Award; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards, presented by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and Dominion Energy, recognize exceptional higher education faculty members like Frederic Bemak for their superior abilities and accomplishments in teaching, research, service, and knowledge integration; and
WHEREAS, Frederic Bemak was one of 12 distinguished educators from throughout the Commonwealth to receive the award; and
WHEREAS, Frederic Bemak has taught at George Mason University for 17 years; his work emphasizes cross-cultural psychology and counseling through a human rights perspective, specializing in immigrants and refugees, post-disaster mental health, vulnerable youths and families, and equity issues in education; and
WHEREAS, Frederic Bemak is the founder and director of the Diversity Research and Action Consortium, which facilitates the building of interdisciplinary partnerships to address multifaceted racial and ethnic issues in Northern Virginia and throughout the United States and the world; and
WHEREAS, Frederic Bemak also founded Counselors Without Borders, which has sent teams to provide post-disaster counseling and support in California, Haiti, Thailand, and Burma; and
WHEREAS, a prolific author and a sought-after speaker and consultant, Frederic Bemak has earned numerous other awards and accolades for his groundbreaking work; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Frederic P. Bemak hereby be commended on receiving a 2018 Outstanding Faculty Award; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Frederic P. Bemak as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his service to the students of George Mason University and contributions to academia.
