Commending Anvil Campground.
—————
Patron—Batten
—————
WHEREAS, Anvil Campground, a family-owned business in Williamsburg, has provided camp sites and other amenities for travelers and visitors to the region for 70 years; and
WHEREAS, Anvil Campground traces its roots to the early 1950s when Ralph Raymon Jump purchased a soybean farm for his family in what was then a remote area three miles outside Williamsburg; in the summer of 1954, a traveler asked if he could park his camper on the Jump family's property overnight, and Ralph Jump not only agreed but provided the man with an electrical hook-up by running an extension cord from the house; and
WHEREAS, inspired by the chance encounter, Ralph Jump created six campsites in one of the family's fields and chose the name Anvil Campground to honor his father and grandfather, who had worked as blacksmiths during the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg from 1929 to 1935; and
WHEREAS, through three generations of family ownership, Anvil Campground has since grown to encompass four acres of campsites, rental cabins, and convenient amenities like patios, a bathhouse, a game room, a pool, and hook-up boxes for electricity, running water, cable television, and Wi-Fi; and
WHEREAS, Ralph Jump's son, Jerry, ran Anvil Campground until his death in 2005, at which time Jerry's son, Chris, began managing the business at the age of only 23; and
WHEREAS, Chris Jump purchased the campground outright in 2011 and currently works alongside his brother, Raymon, who serves as operations manager; and
WHEREAS, Chris and Raymon Jump have maintained Anvil Campground's longstanding commitment to excellence, and they strive to build fellowship by making each guest feel like a part of the family; and
WHEREAS, Anvil Campground has twice been named the National ARVC Park of the Year in the Small Park category by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds and was selected as the 2019 Williamsburg Small Business of the Year by the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce and the 2024 Top RV Campground by Campspot; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Anvil Campground hereby be commended on the occasion of its 70th anniversary of service to campers and families visiting the Virginia Peninsula; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Anvil Campground as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its contributions to the vibrant local economy in the Williamsburg area.
