WHEREAS, Johnny R. Battle, a highly admired resident of Richmond and a devoted father and grandfather, died on April 30, 2018; and

WHEREAS, a native of Halifax County, Johnny Battle was born to the late Demus and Lillian Battle on January 22, 1938; and

WHEREAS, Johnny Battle made his career as a welder and purchased a home on Decatur Street in 1979, where he proudly raised and supported two generations of his beloved family; and

WHEREAS, a fixture in the Broad Rock community, Johnny Battle was well-known in the neighborhood as a loyal friend and a wise mentor; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Maetta, Johnny Battle will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Barbara, Sheila, Joanne, and Johnny, and their families, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Johnny R. Battle; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Johnny R. Battle as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
