WHEREAS, Doug Straley, superintendent of Louisa County Public Schools, was selected as the 2024 Virginia Superintendent of the Year for his commitment to academic excellence and innovative leadership; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Louisa County, Doug Straley began his career as a teacher in Louisa County Public Schools and had worked in numerous leadership roles, including high school principal, athletics director, and assistant superintendent, before becoming superintendent in 2016; and
WHEREAS, Doug Straley ably oversees the 900 employees and 5,000 students of Louisa County Public Schools and works diligently to build strong bonds between the school division, local families, and the wider community; and
WHEREAS, Doug Straley is a passionate advocate for the faculty and staff of Louisa County Public Schools and strives to meet the unique needs of each school to ensure that every student can reach their fullest potential in and out of the classroom; and
WHEREAS, Doug Straley has cultivated a supportive and team-centered culture at Louisa County Public Schools by emphasizing the importance of communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and citizenship; and
WHEREAS, under Doug Straley's leadership, Louisa County Public Schools developed one of the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art career and technical education programs in the nation, instituted an award ceremony to recognize exceptional staff members and students, and launched a program to provide opportunities for volunteer service in the region; and
WHEREAS, Doug Straley has earned numerous awards and accolades for his professional achievements, and Louisa County Public Schools was named one of the Best School Districts in America by Niche.com in 2023 thanks in large part to his visionary leadership; and
WHEREAS, as the Virginia Superintendent of the Year, Doug Straley was honored at the Virginia Association of School Superintendents Awards Luncheon in Roanoke on April 22, 2024; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Doug Straley of Louisa County Public Schools hereby be commended on his selection as the 2024 Virginia Superintendent of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Straley as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his legacy of contributions to public education in Louisa County.
