WHEREAS, Justin Journette, an outfielder on the Norfolk State University baseball team, was selected as the HBCU National Baseball Player of the Year by Black College Nines in 2024; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Justin Journette graduated from Hermitage High School and began attending Norfolk State University on a baseball scholarship in 2022; and

WHEREAS, during his sophomore season in 2024, Justin Journette was a standout member of the Norfolk State University Spartans, driving in 47 runs on 59 hits and recording 10 doubles and three triples; and

WHEREAS, Justin Journette also scored 15 home runs during the season, which was the most by any member of the Norfolk State Spartans since the team joined the National College Athletics Association's Division I, matching an overall school record from 1995; and

WHEREAS, Justin Journette ranked third in the Northeast Conference in home runs, fifth in hitting percentage, and sixth in triples, and he was named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team, marking the first time any member of the Norfolk State Spartans has received all-conference honors; and

WHEREAS, after the season, Justin Journette was selected to participate in the Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU All-Star Game; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Justin Journette hereby be commended on his selection as the HBCU National Baseball Player of the Year by Black College Nines in 2024; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Justin Journette as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his accomplishments and best wishes for the future.
