WHEREAS, Grandfather's Country Creations, a family-owned shop offering unique, handmade gifts and treasures, has served the residents of and visitors to Clarksville for 50 years; and

WHEREAS, Grandfather's Country Creations was established by Betty Crowder Gould and her daughter, Gay Gould Dodson, in May 1974 as a gift and antique shop located in part of the Blanks Sizemore Pontiac Building; and

WHEREAS, around 1980, Betty Gould's husband, Bush, purchased the whole building and began an extensive remodeling project that divided a former garage into four smaller spaces with an open central area; and

WHEREAS, a master carpenter, Bush Gould gave each room interesting characteristics and unique details, while Betty Gould added her own touches like wallpapering one room with vintage newspaper pages; and

WHEREAS, Grandfather's Country Creations became a fixture in the community and was open five and a half days a week for many years; the Goulds also used the rest of the building to operate a flea market and rented space for local entrepreneurs to begin growing their own businesses; and

WHEREAS, currently managed by Gay Dodson and her daughter, Brook, Grandfather's Country Creations has served multiple generations of the same Clarksville families, as well as visitors from all over the Commonwealth and the country, and the shop's Christmas Open House remains a beloved local tradition in Clarksville every year; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Grandfather's Country Creations hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Grandfather's Country Creations as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the shop's contributions to the local economy in downtown Clarksville and legacy of service to the community.
