HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 731
Commending Arlington Neighborhood Village.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 28, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Arlington Neighborhood Village, a nonprofit charitable organization that serves older adults of all backgrounds and income levels throughout Arlington County by helping them to age in place safely, celebrated its 10th anniversary on May 2, 2024; and

WHEREAS, founded in the spring of 2014, Arlington Neighborhood Village plays an invaluable role in strengthening the social safety net for seniors in Arlington County by providing practical services and social support through a network of hundreds of volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Arlington Neighborhood Village offers vital services like transportation, help running errands or completing home chores, and assistance with technology, and its volunteers strive to reduce loneliness and isolation through friendly visits, walks, and daily check-ins; and

WHEREAS, over the course of its 10-year history, Arlington Neighborhood Village's volunteers have fulfilled 21,887 member requests, donated 74,008 hours of time, and driven 255,987 miles at their own expense; and

WHEREAS, in 2024, more than 425 older adults from neighborhoods throughout Arlington County rely on Arlington Neighborhood Village for the support and peace of mind they need to remain in their homes as they age; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Arlington Neighborhood Village hereby be commended on the occasion of its 10th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Arlington Neighborhood Village as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's mission to help older residents of Arlington County remain active and contributing members of the community.
