Commending Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the Virginia Association of Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the first intercollegiate Greek letter fraternity established for African American men, was founded on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., was founded to promote the objectives of stimulating the ambition of its members, to prepare them for the greatest usefulness in the causes of humanity, freedom, and dignity of the individual, to encourage the highest and noblest form of manhood, and to aid downtrodden humanity in its efforts to achieve higher social, economic, and intellectual status; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., has a rich history of producing influential leaders, including historical figures like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, and W.E.B. DuBois, who have played pivotal roles in shaping the course of American history; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., has consistently worked toward achieving its mission of developing leaders, promoting brotherhood and academic excellence, and providing service and advocacy for people in need; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Association of Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., has played a crucial role in furthering the goals of the fraternity within the Commonwealth, promoting collaboration among its chapters, and organizing initiatives that positively impact the community; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Willis L. Lonzer III, the current General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and Kevin Glover, the current president of the Virginia Association of Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., have used their leadership abilities to help all members of the fraternity fulfill its mission and adhere to the motto of "Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind"; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the Virginia Association of Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., hereby be commended for their exemplary service, leadership, and commitment to the betterment of communities throughout the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the Virginia Association of Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for their significant achievements in service to others.
