A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 15.2-1609.2:1, relating to deputy sheriffs; minimum salary.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 15.2-1609.2:1 as follows:

§15.2-1609.2:1. Deputy sheriffs; minimum salary.

Notwithstanding the provisions of §15.2-1609.2 and any other provision of law, general or special, the minimum salary for all deputy sheriffs, both law enforcement and non-law enforcement, shall be set at the compensation board minimum plus a 20 percent supplement. In any locality designated as high or above average according to the Commission on Local Government's Fiscal Stress Index as of July 1, 2020, the Commonwealth shall pay the entire sum of the difference between the current salary paid in such locality and the compensation board minimum plus the 20 percent supplement.
