SENATE BILL NO. 1184
AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE
(Proposed by the House Committee for Courts of Justice
on February 20, 2023)

A BILL to address discrimination against persons of Jewish faith
or ethnicity.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. §1. As used in §§2.2-3900 and 2.2-3902 of the Code of Virginia, "race," "religion," or "national origin" shall include persons of the Jewish faith or ethnicity. As used in §8.01-42.1 of the Code of Virginia, "racial, religious, or ethnic animosity" shall include animosity toward the Jewish faith or ethnicity. As used in §§8.01-49.1, 18.2-57, and 18.2-121 of the Code of Virginia, "race," "religious conviction," or "national origin" shall include persons of the Jewish faith or ethnicity. As used in §52-8.5 of the Code of Virginia, "race," "religion," or "ethnic or national origin" shall include persons of the Jewish faith or ethnicity.
