SENATE BILL NO. 539 Offered January 8, 2014 A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 2.2-208.1, relating to the Secretary of Education; annual report. ---------- Patron-- Howell ---------- Referred to Committee on General Laws and Technology ----------

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 2.2-208.1 as follows:

§2.2-208.1. Secretary to report on the Commonwealth's educational promotion efforts.

On or before October 1 of each year, the Secretary, in collaboration with the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, the Chancellor of the Virginia Community College System, the Director of the Science Museum of Virginia, and the Council on Virginia's Future, shall report to the Governor and the General Assembly on the Commonwealth's efforts to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education; career readiness; and career and professional certification at all levels of education. The report shall include recommendations for appropriate metrics for measuring the success of the Commonwealth's efforts in advancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.
