A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 23-220.02, relating to academic credit; industry credentials.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 23-220.02 as follows:

§23-220.02. Academic credit; industry credentials.

A. The State Board shall adopt a policy for the award of academic credit to any student enrolled in a comprehensive community college who has successfully completed a third-party industry credential identified as in-demand pursuant to subsection B and applicable to the student's certificate or degree program requirements.

B. The State Board shall identify, in consultation with the Virginia Board of Workforce Development and local business and industry leaders, in-demand third-party industry credentials for each community college region. The State Board shall publish a list of such credentials on its website.
