SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 117
Commending the Reverend Dr. Keith Ivan Jones.

WHEREAS, after a distinguished 41-year career in ministry, the Reverend Dr. Keith Ivan Jones retired as the senior pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Norfolk; and

WHEREAS, Keith Jones previously served the nation as a quartermaster officer and a chaplain in the United States Army; he was selected to serve as pastor of the United States Army War College Memorial Chapel, the most prestigious posting for an Army chaplain; and

WHEREAS, after joining Shiloh Baptist Church, Keith Jones invigorated the congregation through his engaging sermons and commitment to religious education; he established several community-focused ministries, with a particular emphasis on social justice; and

WHEREAS, highly admired throughout the region for his spiritual counsel and wise leadership, Keith Jones also served as the 57th President of the Tidewater Metro Baptist Ministers' Conference of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his outreach work through the church, Keith Jones has devoted himself to enhancing the quality of life of all Norfolk residents by offering his expertise to several boards and nonprofit organizations; and

WHEREAS, Keith Jones has received numerous military and civilian awards and accolades for his outstanding personal and professional achievements; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Reverend Dr. Keith Ivan Jones on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Dr. Keith Ivan Jones as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his legacy of contributions to the Norfolk community.
