SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 148
Commending All Saints Catholic School.

WHEREAS, All Saints Catholic School was honored as a 2009 United States Department of Education No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School; and

WHEREAS, on September 15, 2009, the elated students, staff, and faculty of All Saints Catholic School, located in Manassas, learned that the school had been designated as a Blue Ribbon School; and

WHEREAS, well-known as a symbol of excellence and quality, the prestigious Blue Ribbon School designation was awarded to only 13 Virginia schools in 2009; All Saints Catholic School received a plaque and flag signifying its Blue Ribbon status; and

WHEREAS, founded with the assistance of the Benedictine Sisters of Bristow in 1957, All Saints Catholic School is a parochial school in the Diocese of Arlington that has grown to over 500 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade; and

WHEREAS, All Saints Catholic School provides a balanced program that fosters spiritual growth, intellectual challenge, physical development, and social responsibility; and

WHEREAS, one of the most technologically advanced schools in the region, All Saints Catholic School, with the generosity of the parish and hard work of the Parent-Teacher Organization, has equipped all classrooms with an ACTIV Board, enabling teachers to integrate technology across the curriculum; and

WHEREAS, during recent years, the teachers of All Saints Catholic School have focused on a data-driven analysis of test scores; identification of each student's level of mastery has allowed the teachers to narrow the lens of instruction, focusing time and energy to maximize student learning; and

WHEREAS, all grade levels at All Saints Catholic School met or exceeded the benchmark established to determine placement in the top 10 percent of United States students on the national standardized testing program; and

WHEREAS, All Saints Catholic School's distinguished Blue Ribbon Award is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the students, parents, administration, teachers, staff, and parish; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend All Saints Catholic School as a recipient of the United States Department of Education No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David Conroy, Jr., principal, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for the school's commitment to its students.
