WHEREAS, Albert R. Meadows, a former member of the York County Board of Supervisors and respected civic leader, died on May 2, 2009; and WHEREAS, a lifelong Peninsula resident and resident of York County since 1962, Albert "Al" Meadows was actively involved in the York County community as a respected businessman and beloved civic leader; and WHEREAS, Al Meadows was a former manager for Colonial Store, Big Star, Giant, and Farm Fresh, where he was a dedicated and valued employee; and WHEREAS, Al Meadows put his experience in the grocery business to good use as the successful owner of the Seaford Country Market from 1993 until 2005; and WHEREAS, actively involved in the business community, Al Meadows was a founding member of the York County Business Association and was instrumental in transforming that body into the York County Chamber of Commerce; he also served as vice president and president of the Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, Al Meadows was elected to the York County Board of Supervisors in 1995, where he worked diligently on behalf of York County citizens and was known for his commonsense approach to government; and WHEREAS, Al Meadows also generously gave of his time and talents in the community as a member and past president of the Grafton Kiwanis Club and as a Kiwanis District Lieutenant Governor; he also served on the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, the Victory Family YMCA, and Union Bank and Trust, formerly Bay Community Bank; and WHEREAS, known for his jovial manner, Al Meadows had a legion of friends and enjoyed a rich and rewarding life that was marked by service to others; and WHEREAS, Al Meadows will be fondly remembered for his generous heart and friendly disposition and sorely missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda Meadows; his two sons, Albert R. Meadows, Jr., and Matthew Meadows, and their families; and his numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the loss of a respected civic and business leader and an outstanding Virginian, Albert R. Meadows; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Albert R. Meadows as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
