WHEREAS, Citizens Bank & Trust Company, a distinguished financial institution serving residents and businesses throughout Central Virginia, celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2023; and
WHEREAS, the Circuit Court of Nottoway County granted a charter of incorporation for Citizens Bank & Trust Company on August 4, 1873; and
WHEREAS, Citizens Bank & Trust Company established its original office in Blackstone, where it continues to be headquartered today; and
WHEREAS, the first act of Citizens Bank & Trust Company was the adoption of its policy, which was and has been, that it would not prosper on the misfortunes of its customers or the community in which it was located, but would use its resources and whatever ability was possessed by its officers and directors for the benefit of the community and share the prosperity to which it contributed; and
WHEREAS, Citizens Bank & Trust Company's first president was William Hodges Mann, who served with the bank until he was elected Governor of the Commonwealth in 1910; and
WHEREAS, through its history, Citizens Bank & Trust Company has established 12 locations in Nottoway, Prince Edward, Amelia, Mecklenburg, Powhatan, and Chesterfield counties and the city of Colonial Heights; and
WHEREAS, Citizens Bank & Trust Company has served as an instrumental financial asset for the businesses and families in its region; and
WHEREAS, Citizens Bank & Trust Company is celebrating 150 years of service to its community as the second-oldest independent bank in the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Citizens Bank & Trust Company on the occasion of its 150th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Citizens Bank & Trust Company as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the bank's history and its many contributions to the Commonwealth.
