WHEREAS, Michael Scott Hoover, an accomplished business executive, former chief of the Broadway Volunteer Fire Department, and beloved member of the Broadway community, died on December 26, 2023; and
WHEREAS, as president and procurement manager at Neff Lumber Mills, a manufacturer of quality Appalachian hardwoods, Michael "Mike" Hoover supported the endeavors of countless builders in the Shenandoah Valley and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hoover advanced his industry as chair of Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers, Inc., and as a member of the Virginia Forestry Association, the West Virginia Forestry Association, and the National Hardwood Lumber Association; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hoover was a lifetime member and former president and chief of the Broadway Volunteer Fire Department, where he implemented a number of initiatives over the years to enhance the department's safety, efficiency, and efficacy; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hoover's commitment to public safety led him to serve as president of the Rockingham County Firefighters Association and to spearhead the development of the area's 9-1-1 system as well as the establishment of the Bergton Volunteer Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hoover gave generously of his time to mentor younger firefighters, and he also served the community as a member of what is now the Broadway Emergency Squad; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hoover was an avid golfer and also found great joy in coaching his sons' Little League baseball teams in their youth; and
WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his faith, Mike Hoover enjoyed worship and fellowship with his local church community, read daily from his Bible, and previously served on the board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hoover will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of more than 48 years, Anne; his children, Matthew and Mark, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Michael Scott Hoover, a treasured member of the Broadway community whose kindness, dedication, and legacy of service were an inspiration to all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Michael Scott Hoover as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
