WHEREAS, Debra Chittum Cox of Fredericksburg, a successful beautician and a person who embraced life to its fullest, who dearly loved her family, and who derived great comfort from her faith, died on January 12, 2012; and WHEREAS, as a young girl, Debra Chittum "Debbie" Cox loved animals, especially horses; she owned a pony as a young girl, and when she was older she participated in horse shows, winning many ribbons; and WHEREAS, Debbie Cox had many interests, including camping and fishing; she played third base on a Stafford County softball team and enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle, often participating in fundraising rides; and WHEREAS, after graduating from Stafford High School, where she studied cosmetology, Debbie Cox worked as a beautician for several years before opening her own business in Stafford County, Cox's Hair and Tan; and WHEREAS, a woman of strong faith, Debbie Cox was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church for most of her life; she was active in many church activities, including Vacation Bible School, the church choir, Acteens, and praise groups; and WHEREAS, Debbie Cox was a talented pianist and had served as accompanist for the Falmouth Baptist Church Junior Children's Choir; she also was a pianist for other local churches; and WHEREAS, faith and family helped Debbie Cox meet life's challenges, and she continued to help others even while facing her own chronic health issues; her strong spirit and her determination gave her strength throughout her life to reach out to those in need around her; and WHEREAS, the courage and bravery that Debbie Cox displayed will be long remembered by her family and friends who will miss her dearly; she is survived by her children, Hillary and Bethaney, and their families; her parents, Gloria and Lloyd; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and loving mother and friend, Debra Chittum Cox; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Debra Chittum Cox as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory. |
