SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 222
Commending the Reverend Dr. Angelo V. Chatmon.

WHEREAS, for 25 years, the Reverend Dr. Angelo V. Chatmon has provided wise spiritual counsel and outstanding leadership to the Dumbarton community as senior pastor of Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, after receiving a bachelor's degree from Yankton College in South Dakota, Angelo Chatmon attended what is now Brown College in Minnesota, earning degrees in radio and television broadcasting and advertising; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Chatmon pursued a career as a radio announcer and producer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, then served as the vice president of promotion and distribution for Cada Records, a gospel music record label; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Chatmon answered the call to the ministry and continued his education at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, where he earned a doctor of ministry degree; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Chatmon served as pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Mathews County from 1985 to 1996, then joined Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church in 1999; and

WHEREAS, from 1985 to 2005, Angelo Chatmon also served as an assistant professor of religious studies at Virginia Union University, then from 2005 to 2021, he served as its university pastor and director of university and church relations, and he became the university's first ever recipient of the Scott & Stringfellow Outstanding Professor Award; and

WHEREAS, in addition to leading the congregation of Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church, Angelo Chatmon currently serves as chair of the Religious Studies Department at Virginia Union University and as a board member of the Baptist General Convention of Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Reverend Dr. Angelo V. Chatmon on the occasion of his 25th anniversary as pastor of Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Dr. Angelo V. Chatmon as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his legacy of contributions to the community.
