WHEREAS, Lula Bauer, a youth athletics coach and the executive director of the Lee Mount Vernon Sports Club, was inducted into the Virginia-DC Soccer Hall of Fame in the Meritorious Service Category at the 2024 Virginia Youth Soccer Association Awards Gala; and
WHEREAS, Lula Bauer's remarkable journey with Lee Mount Vernon Sports Club spans more than 30 years; she initially started as a recreational soccer coach and equipment manager, and under her leadership as executive director, the club has flourished, creating travel soccer, travel basketball, recreational basketball, flag football, and lacrosse programs; and
WHEREAS, throughout her tenure, Lula Bauer has coached countless young athletes, with some later returning to coach their own children, a true testament to the positive influence she had on their lives; and
WHEREAS, Lula Bauer has worked tirelessly to ensure that no player is left out due to financial constraints, and her impact on the community extends far beyond the playing fields, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she organized food drives for people in need; and
WHEREAS, Lula Bauer's advocacy for women and girls in sports has been unparalleled; in 2004, she played a pivotal role in introducing small-sided soccer for girls, marking a significant milestone in the region, and in 2006, she championed the inclusion of U9 and U10 girls in a non-result-oriented division, further breaking down barriers; and
WHEREAS, Lula Bauer paved the way for all-female coaching education and referee certification courses in 2018, then orchestrated an all-female international coaching education trip with female coaching education instructors in 2019; and
WHEREAS, Lula Bauer has earned many other awards and accolades over the course of her distinguished career, including the High School Girls Coach of the Year, Virginia State Girls Coach of the Year, and Regional Girls Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Lula Bauer is a pillar of strength and leadership in the Franconia and Mount Vernon communities, and her induction into the Virginia-DC Soccer Hall of Fame is a testament to her unwavering dedication to young people and contributions to the game of soccer; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lula Bauer on the occasion of her induction into the Virginia-DC Soccer Hall of Fame in 2024; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lula Bauer as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her inspirational legacy of contributions to young athletes in Franconia and Mount Vernon.
