WHEREAS, Diana Wallace joined the Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens in 1981 and was selected by the Board of Directors to be the executive director of the agency in 1984; and WHEREAS, for 26 years, Diana Wallace has successfully worked with federal, state, and local elected officials and local planning organizations to improve aging services in Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, and Tazewell counties; and WHEREAS, Diana Wallace has administered multimillion-dollar budgets, piloted best-practices programs, served on many state and local boards and advisory councils, and implemented, sponsored, or funded a variety of creative projects; and WHEREAS, these projects include the Medicaid Personal Care Services program, the ground-breaking delivery of pre-packaged home-delivered meals, a pilot state Case Management Project, the Pittston Place housing project, the Oxbow Project, the regional Seminar on Older Adults, the "bridge the gap" concept for adult day care, the Four County Transit program (which was recognized as a best practice in 2006 by the Commonwealth Council on Aging), and the PACE Program, to name just a few; and WHEREAS, Diana Wallace has been a leader in the region's efforts to improve the lives of all citizens and has been a strong supporter of continuing education and shared learning between adults and children; and WHEREAS, Diana Wallace's goal for the Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens has been to start at least one new and innovative program each year; and WHEREAS, in keeping with the spirit of generosity and kindness that so characterizes Virginians, Diana Wallace has inspired many others to devote themselves to the mission of her agency; and WHEREAS, her work in the field of aging has benefited and enriched the lives of the older population and their families not only in her region but also throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Diana Wallace on her many outstanding accomplishments; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Diana Wallace as an expression of the General Assembly's respect and admiration for her hard work and dedication to the senior population of the Commonwealth. |
