WHEREAS, Ken Jessup, an esteemed advocate for individuals with disabilities, has made an extraordinary and indelible impact on the Commonwealth and the nation over a career spanning more than three decades; and

WHEREAS, blind since birth, Ken Jessup has devoted himself to advocating for programs and services that assist individuals with disabilities and improve their quality of life; and

WHEREAS, Ken Jessup has supported a number of distinguished clients over his career in government affairs, including Support Services of Virginia, Eggleston Services, Appalachian Voices, Wild South, Allied Instructional Services, SourceAmerica, W.C. Duke Associates, and Virginia Voice; and

WHEREAS, Ken Jessup has fostered the growth and development of his industry as a founding member of the Virginia Association of Professional Lobbyists; and

WHEREAS, Ken Jessup has served the Commonwealth under 10 governors, including as chair of an advisory committee on services for the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired, as a multi-term member of the State Rehabilitation Advisory Council, as a two-term member on the Board for the Blind and Vision Impaired, and as a member of an advisory committee for the State Board of Elections; and

WHEREAS, Ken Jessup has provided invaluable leadership as vice chair of the Virginia Assistive Technology System, vice president of the Virginia Association for the Blind, chair of the Statewide Independent Living Council, and member of the board of directors of the Randolph-Sheppard Vendors of America; and

WHEREAS, Ken Jessup served locally as chair of the Virginia Beach Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities for four years and as a member of the Sister Cities Association of Virginia Beach for 30 years, and he was recognized for his efforts by the Rotary Club of Virginia Beach with its First Citizen award in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Ken Jessup has imparted his wisdom and years of experience as a longtime contributing writer for Virginia Capitol Connections quarterly magazine with his column titled, “The Lighter Side of Lobbying,” which was later compiled for his book, It Was Just A Phase: Amusing Moments from My World; and

WHEREAS, through hard work and dedication, Ken Jessup has left a deep and lasting imprint on Virginia Beach, the Commonwealth, and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ken Jessup for his legacy of service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ken Jessup as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his contributions to the Commonwealth.
