SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 345

Commending Stephen King.

WHEREAS, after almost nine years of service, Stephen King retired as the county administrator of Rockingham County, having successfully guided the county through significant periods of change and growth while improving services to local residents; and

WHEREAS, Stephen King grew up in Buena Vista and returned to help the town with a flood mitigation project after graduating from the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in civil engineering; and

WHEREAS, Stephen King and his wife subsequently relocated to Rockingham County to raise their family; he began his career in local government there as director of public works, then served as deputy county administrator; and

WHEREAS, Stephen King was selected as county administrator in 2016 and successfully managed the operations of Rockingham County's public works, fire and rescue, and parks and recreation departments; and

WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Stephen King worked diligently to continue providing essential services without interruption while keeping residents and government employees safe and healthy; and

WHEREAS, highly admired for his honesty, integrity, and practical approach to problem solving, Stephen King consistently worked to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of county programs; and

WHEREAS, Stephen King built strong relationships with numerous other Rockingham County officials and was a trusted friend to his colleagues and an indispensable mentor for younger employees; and

WHEREAS, during his well-earned retirement, Stephen King plans to serve the community as a volunteer or seek other opportunities to enhance local life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Stephen King on the occasion of his retirement as county administrator of Rockingham County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Stephen King as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his legacy of contributions to the Rockingham County community.
