WHEREAS, Linda Ford, a respected professional and dedicated public servant from Chesterfield, will retire from the Department of Motor Vehicles on March 24, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Linda Ford grew up in Annandale, attended Annandale High School, graduated from the University of Virginia with a master's degree in sociology, and married her husband of more than 31 years, Gary, in 1993; together they have raised two children, Justin and Hunter; and
WHEREAS, Linda Ford began her career with the Commonwealth with the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission in 1987 and then joined the staff of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in 2004; and
WHEREAS, Linda Ford served as the director of business and analytical services for the DMV from 2010 to 2014, leading many of the agency's priority initiatives to enhance customer service, expand the agency's service offerings, and streamline processes to reduce expenses; and
WHEREAS, Linda Ford served as the DMV's assistant commissioner for governmental affairs from 2014 to 2021, successfully leading innovative programs such as the issuance of Virginia vital records at DMV offices and the implementation of the federal REAL ID Act in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Linda Ford served as the deputy commissioner and chief operating officer for the DMV between 2021 and 2025, overseeing an extensive portfolio encompassing many core functions of the agency, including field operations, motor carrier services, central office driver and vehicle services, legislative services, data management and analytics, and information security; and
WHEREAS, between 2022 and 2023, Linda Ford served as acting commissioner of the DMV, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the agency's 100-year history; and
WHEREAS, Linda Ford, a cherished and admired executive staff member of the DMV, has become well-known and respected by many through her distinguished and dedicated service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Linda Ford, longtime employee of the Department of Motor Vehicles, on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Linda Ford as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her service to the Commonwealth.
