SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 401 Celebrating the life of Gwyneth Griffin. Agreed to by the Senate, February 7, 2012 Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 15, 2013

WHEREAS, Gwyneth Griffin of Stafford County (1999�2012) was an amazing daughter, loving sister, and great friend who touched the lives of countless individuals over the course of her life; and

WHEREAS, Gwyneth Griffin was born to Joel and Jennifer Griffin and was the older sister of Ainsley Griffin; and

WHEREAS, an intelligent and hardworking young lady, Gwyneth Griffin was a rising eighth grader at A. G. Wright Middle School, where she was a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Mural Club, Technology Student Association, and Student Council; and

WHEREAS, Gwyneth Griffin twice won her school's science fair in her grade level and placed second at the regional science fair in biology; and

WHEREAS, a well-rounded young woman, Gwyneth Griffin had also been involved in community events through the Girl Scouts and played with the Stafford Area Soccer Association; and

WHEREAS, Gwyneth Griffin attended the Barton & Williams School of Dance for eight years and the Patrick McGrath Academy of Irish Dance for five years and showcased her talents at various community events; and

WHEREAS, a kind, strong, smart young woman who was a loyal friend to many, Gwyneth Griffin brought great joy to her family and friends throughout her life and immeasurably enriched their lives; and

WHEREAS, on June 8, 2012, Gwyneth Griffin collapsed at her school after suffering a cardiac event; she spent nearly two months in the hospital, but passed away as a result of complications from an anoxic brain injury; and

WHEREAS, Gwyneth Griffin's parents chose to share the story of their daughter's death to help prevent similar situations from occurring, working to ensure that all school personnel and students have the training and equipment needed to assist an individual in the event of an emergency through the introduction of SB 986 in the General Assembly, commonly known as Gwyneth's Law; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a remarkable young woman from Stafford County, Gwyneth Griffin; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gwyneth Griffin as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory and legacy.
