WHEREAS, Sheila A. Olem, an esteemed public servant and mayor of the Town of Herndon, concluded her tenure with the Herndon Town Council after not seeking reelection in November 2024; and

WHEREAS, Sheila Olem holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of North Alabama and a master's degree in health administration from the University of Memphis and works as an independent sales associate representing Aflac, in addition to owning and managing commercial real estate; and

WHEREAS, a resident of Herndon since 1990, Sheila Olem began her career in public service when she was appointed to Herndon's Board of Zoning Appeals in 2000, where she served until 2007, in addition to serving on a number of Dranesville District land use committees in the early 2000s; and

WHEREAS, Sheila Olem was elected to the Herndon Town Council in 2010 and served two terms as mayor, as well as one term as vice mayor; and

WHEREAS, in her capacity as a member of the Herndon Town Council, Sheila Olem served on the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, and various committees of the Virginia Municipal League; and

WHEREAS, beyond her public service, Sheila Olem has given generously of her time to support her community through her involvement with her children's schools and various local events and organizations; and

WHEREAS, Sheila Olem's tenure with the Herndon Town Council was defined by her exceptional leadership, exemplary commitment to promoting the town's growth and development and its partnership with Fairfax County, and unwavering dedication to the success and well-being of the town's residents and businesses; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Sheila A. Olem as she concludes her service on the Herndon Town Council; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sheila A. Olem as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her contributions to Herndon and the Commonwealth.
