WHEREAS, Ruby Garrett Jones of Williamsburg will celebrate her 100th birthday on May 1, 2013; and WHEREAS, the matriarch of a large family, Ruby Jones raised three daughters and has greatly enjoyed her eight grandchildren, one of whom passed away; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; and WHEREAS, a talented seamstress, Ruby Jones spent 20 years with Colonial Williamsburg at the Williamsburg Inn and Motor House upholstery shops, first as a seamstress and then as a lead seamstress for nearly 10 years; and WHEREAS, Ruby Jones made draperies, bedspreads, canopy bed hangings, and Williamsburg Craft House floor displays and ensured the quality of upholstery items that guests would enjoy during their stay in Williamsburg; and WHEREAS, since 1947, Ruby Jones has enjoyed fellowship and worship at Olive Branch Christian Church, where she was one of the church's first women elders; and WHEREAS, Ruby Jones has served in numerous capacities at Olive Branch Christian Church, teaching Sunday School and vacation bible school, serving as a youth leader, and leading the Christian Women's Fellowship group as president and vice president; and WHEREAS, Ruby Jones, who continues to remain very active, enjoys her home and now has her farmland share-cropped; and WHEREAS, Ruby Jones has witnessed many changes in the world over the past century and has remained committed to her faith and family; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ruby Garrett Jones on the grand occasion of her 100th birthday; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ruby Garrett Jones as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for her long and full life. |
