WHEREAS, the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club, an organization dedicated to its mission "to promote greater knowledge of horticulture, stimulate interest in conservation and historic preservation, encourage community environmental education, and participate in civic planning and planting programs," celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club was established in 1924 by 13 prominent Bath County women, and its membership grew to 21 within the first year and has remained at 30 to 50 members ever since; and
WHEREAS, the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club has greatly supported the community over the years through a number of projects and initiatives, including the restoration of the Warm Springs Valley Cemetery between the 1940s and 1980s; and
WHEREAS, the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club has contributed greatly to the beautification, landscaping, and maintenance of prominent sites in Bath County, including the local welcome center, hospital, elementary school, airport, courthouse, post office, library, government buildings, nursing home, historical society, and highway markers at entrances to the county; and
WHEREAS, the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club has cultivated an interest in horticulture, gardening, and the environment among young people of the community by sending local students to nature camp for more than a half-century, donating books to the Bath County Public Library, and supporting the wind turbine program at the area high school; and
WHEREAS, the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club encourages community involvement in support of its mission through special prizes and awards, including its annual Golden Trowel Award; and
WHEREAS, the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club hosts regular meetings, field trips, and presentations for its members to inform and enrich their understanding of the endless facets of horticulture and gardening; and
WHEREAS, the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club's longstanding commitment to horticulture, conservation, historic preservation, and the environment, and the impressive efforts of its members have helped to make Bath County a wonderful and more beautiful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club hereby be commended on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's history and its contributions to Bath County and the Commonwealth.
