Bill Title: Tuition and fee exemptions for service-connected Disabled Veterans and their dependents.
Status: 2024-02-08 - To House Finance [HB4720 Detail]
Download: West_Virginia-2024-HB4720-Community_Technical_College_System_WV.html
The purpose of this bill is to provide a waiver of tuition and fees at state institutions of higher education and community and technical colleges for military veterans, their spouses, and dependents, when that veteran has a service-related disability. The proposed amendment changes the degree of disability from 50 percent or greater. The Higher Education Policy Commission and Community and Technical College Council cannot quantify the number of students who would potentially qualify under these specific criteria. The bill does not refer to West Virginia resident disabled veterans, spouses, and children. Neither does it specify any time parameters. We do not expect this bill to have a significant fiscal impact that would require additional state appropriations; however, individual institutions could have impact dependent on the number of qualifying students.
