Bill Title: Repeal municipal amusement tax
Status: 2024-01-16 - To House Finance [HB4826 Detail]
Download: West_Virginia-2024-HB4826-Municipal_League_WV.html
The stated purpose of this bill is to repeal W. Va. Code §8-13-6 relating to the repeal of the municipal amusement tax. The total budgeted amount for all cities for budget line "309 Amusement Tax" for the 2023-2024 fiscal year is $284,050. Actual collection numbers are not available. Additionally, the bill contains a technical error in the enacting clause in which it amends and reenacts Section 1 of Chapter 8, Article 13 which is different from the bill's title and stated purpose. The error in the enacting clause code section, if applied, would replace existing property tax levy authority regarding the ability of municipalities to levy property taxes which would result in further reduction in municipal revenue.
