A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §5-16-7h, relating to authorizing the Public Employee Insurance Agency to provide insurance coverage for certain prescribed weight loss medications.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
ARTICLE 16. WEST VIRGINIA PUBLIC EMPLOYEES INSURANCE ACT.
§5-16-7h. Coverage of weight loss medications.
A policy, plan or contract that is issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2024, shall provide coverage for prescription of GLP-1 agonist medications when prescribed for weight loss.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require the PEIA to reimburse covered persons for GLP-1 agonist medications prescribed by a physician for weight loss.
