Requesting the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 44-013/00-007.41  () (44A028), (38.63102,-81.47307) locally known as POCA TRUSS (SSTT), carrying County Route 13 over POCATALICO RIVER in Roane County, the “U. S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Milford Arnold Cunningham Memorial Bridge”.

Whereas, Chief Warrant Officer Milford Arnold Cunningham was born February 4, 1931, at Prenter, West Virginia, and raised in Walton, Roane County, West Virginia.  He preferred the name “Bill” to Milford; and

Whereas, Chief Warrant Officer “Bill” Arnold Cunningham enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1948 to 1968.  During his army career, he was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and then served in Germany, Japan, Vietnam, and Korea.  He was awarded three Purple Hearts; and

Whereas, Upon his retirement from active military duty, Bill Cunningham was transferred to the Kennedy Space Center (NASA) where he worked as a transport specialist moving the rockets from the hanger to the launch pad for all spacecraft; and

Whereas, Chief Warrant Officer Milford “Bill” Arnold Cunningham passed on February 11, 1998; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U. S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Milford Arnold Cunningham and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name Bridge Number: 44-013/00-007.41  () (44A028), (38.63102,-81.47307) locally known as POCA TRUSS (SSTT), carrying County Route 13 over POCATALICO RIVER in Roane county, the “U. S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Milford Arnold Cunningham Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the “U. S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Milford Arnold Cunningham Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
