HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 84

Requesting the Division of Highways to name bridge number 8-15/4-7.10 in Widen, Clay County, West Virginia, the “First Lieutenant Charles (Chuck) Barrett II Memorial Bridge.”
Whereas, First Lieutenant Charles Barrett II was born in 1943, the son of Charles and Mary Barrett; and
Whereas, First Lieutenant Charles Barrett II was raised in Widen, was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Widen High School; and
Whereas, First Lieutenant Charles Barrett II attended West Virginia Institute of Technology before entering the United Sates Army; and
Whereas, First Lieutenant Charles Barrett II attended Officers Candidate School and became an Army Ranger; and
Whereas, First Lieutenant Charles Barrett II began his tour of duty in Vietnam in September 1966 and was killed in action on July 23, 1967 at Pleiku, South Vietnam; and
Whereas, It is only fitting and proper that this bridge be named after First Lieutenant Charles Barrett II so that his supreme sacrifice will not be forgotten; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways name bridge number 8-15/4-7.10 in Widen, Clay County, West Virginia, the “First Lieutenant Charles (Chuck) Barrett II Memorial Bridge”; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is requested to have made, and be placed, signs identifying the bridge as the “First Lieutenant Charles (Chuck) Barrett II Memorial Bridge”; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a certified copy of this resolution to his sister, Harriet Rhodes of Albuquerque, New Mexico and to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation.
