A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §24-6-6c, relating to establishing an additional dedicated fee for 911.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §24-6-6c, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 6.  LOCAL EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SYSTEM.


§24-6-6c.  Authorization of Additional Local 911 fees.


            (a)  Effective July 1, 2017, a county commission may authorize the collection of an additional enhanced county 911 fee not to exceed $1 per month per wireless subscriber which resides in that county. This fee shall be in addition to fees outlined in section six -b of this article. However, this additional fee assessed shall be collected by the Public Service Commission in the same manner as provided in this article for other fees and transferred to the specific county that authorized the additional fee.

            (b) All additional funds received pursuant to this section shall be restricted in use, specifically dedicated to the operation, maintenance and personnel costs associated with the operational needs of the county 911 center of the county authorizing and generating the additional fees.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to authorize county commissions to authorize the collection of additional fee, not to exceed $l per month per subscriber of wireless phone lines.
