SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 22-037/00-004.35 (22A167), (38.10346, -82.17775) locally known as U.S. Army TEC5 Donald "Tiny" Lucas Memorial Bridge, carrying CR 037 over EAST FK OF 14 MI. CK in Lincoln County, as the "Donald Lucas & Ronald Lucas Memorial Bridge".
Whereas, Ron Lucas was born on May 8, 1946; and
Whereas, Ron Lucas held his first job as a janitor in the one room school that he attended on 14 Mile Creek where he attended grade school; and
Whereas, Ron Lucas held a second job working in his parents grocery store; and
Whereas, Ron Lucas attended Auto Diesel School after high school graduation in Nashville, Tennessee and learned to weld; and
Whereas, Ron Lucas enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam War; and
Whereas, Ron Lucas attended Marshall University after his service in the war on the GI Bill, and achieved a degree in accounting; and
Whereas, Ron Lucas was generous to the communities that he lived and worked in, always donating time, space, goods, and money to worthy causes; and
Whereas, Ron Lucas belonged to the VFW for many years after he retired from his grocery store, and was extremely proud of his service; and
Whereas, Ron Lucas was a driving force in getting his father's name on the sign for the bridge as it presently exists; and
Whereas, Sadly, Ron Lucas passed away on September 10, 2022;
Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate the service of Ron Lucas and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways name bridge number 22-037/00-004.35 (22A167), (38.10346, -82.17775) locally known as U.S. Army TEC5 Donald "Tiny" Lucas Memorial Bridge, carrying CR 037 over EAST FK OF 14 MI. CK in Lincoln County, as the "Donald Lucas & Ronald Lucas Memorial Bridge," and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "Donald Lucas & Ronald Lucas Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
