Why do these mostly black men have to spend 20 plus years of their lives behind bars, when white men get away Scott-free with committing the same crime? Who sets these 20 plus years, how and why? We need to know where this number comes from, and understand the “why” behind it.

I am following this bill because my friend was sentenced to almost 100 years in prison in 2003. He was charged for 2 counts of attempted murder and he didn't harm any one. The judge just decided to throw the book at him and he has sat in jail for over 20 years. My friend is white. If he had murdered someone he would probably be walking the streets. Our criminal justice system is flawed and it fails it's citizens everyday. I also have another "white" friend who killed his drug dealer that had assaulted him & he received 30 years & he has done over 20 years also. You have rapist & murderers set free after 10 - 15 years. They pick and chose who they want to stick it to. Trust me it's not just black men.
